A man walks around a disused swimming baths; he emerges from various spaces, punches a bag, walks upstairs. We see all his actions twice on the same screen, displaced by eight seconds. The viewer sees the present and the past at the same time (or you could say the present and the future). And a performer on one screen appears to be interacting with himself on the other screen, as if they were two separate individuals.
The piece was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board.

Steve Hawley is Head of the School of Art at MMU. He has worked with video and film for 20 years, and has made several pieces which deal with unsettling traditional forms of narrative.
Steve Dutton works predominantly with the gallery space.
