Studios and Facilities

The Faculty is fortunate to have a wide range of resources for students, combining traditional media with the most modern digital facilities.

The studios range from the magnificent painting studios in the original 1880 School of Art building, to modern design spaces in the 8 storey Chatham tower, affording panoramic views over central Manchester.

Our ethos is to combine new and digital media in innovative and exciting ways. So within Fashion, Embroidery and Textiles for example, traditional weaving techniques are side by side with the advanced digital loom. Bronze casting and etching can be combined with computer image manipulation and professional digital edit suites.

The library is not only a learning centre but has its own distinguished art and design collection, and the Faculty also holds a world class Textiles collection and resource, as well as an extensive slide library.

Most facilities are open to all trained students in the Faculty, in addition to drop in PC and creative Mac computer suites.
