‘Knit and purl’

‘These two simple stitches form the basis of all knitting stitch patterns. The innumerable patterns
one can make by using either or a combination of both stitches may be smoothly or richly textured’.

The inspiration for my work is a skill I learnt as a child from my mother.
The concept is to use a traditional skill to produce contemporary sculptural pieces.
The pattern is a very important aspect, Aran knitting is normally seen on a small scale,
but when made on a larger scale it takes on an architectural quality and the
simplicity of construction becomes more dynamic.
