Kirsteen Aubrey | Statement | Works

"My work has always combined glass with another material, usually that of slate.

Earlier works concentrated on contrasting the two
media; weight, texture and colour of slate versus
delicacy and fluidity of blown glass. Recent work
concentrates on the idea of layers and multiples using
the slate and landscape as inspiration.

The layering can be as a result of incorporating the
slate impression within the glass and building up
layers of colour as in ‘Landscape’ (blue triangle) to
create a sense of depth and atmosphere. ‘Landscape’
was produced as a direct result of witnessing the
changing atmosphere and colours across Lake
Windermere. Alternatively the layering can be as a
result of producing multiple components that sit
together e.g. stone walls. "
