Jenny Walker | Statement | Works

I find precious content in very ordinary objects – an element of intrigue and history, a memory, an aesthetic quality. Jewellery is the vehicle by which I seek to elevate their status and give them new life.

The fascination for discards began in childhood with early archaeological finds. I collected bits of Victorian rubbish, which I took home and kept as treasures. More recently new discoveries have been made in my urban environment, remnants of Manchester’s industrial heritage, a link to its past inhabitants through the fragments of everyday items they once used. This sense of history and the connection to person and place through the found object is a never-ending source of inspiration.
