Isabel Dibden Wright | Statement | Works

My aim is for the work to reflect my love of and delight in the natural world.

This curent work is inspired by love of my garden. My studio looks out over this, and every day, time is spent looking out into the garden and observing its changes, and delighting in it. The fleeting moments, sunshine through flowers and foliage, and insubstantial shadows are all aspects that I aim to express.

Many of the colours I have dyed myself, and often start with fragments of fabrics left from previous pieces,re-using fabrics in the shapes that present themselves. Bonding these together swiftly forms the basis for the design. This way of working is spontaneous and joyful. Pieces then evolve, with contemplative periods of time considering how the piece might develop.

If I am quiet I find the work tells me what it needs.
