Amanda Langdown | Statement | Works

My own Practise has grown out of my teaching. For some years I have been involved with teaching fashion drawing from life with particular emphasis on seeing and recording the pose.

The pose is vital for placing fashion in a contemporary context.

I have always been fascinated by the dynamic qualities of the fashion pose, particularly the formal and elegant poses of the 1950’s.My drawing style is inspired by the energy of Rene Gruau and the paintings of Marlene Dumas. I work very quickly, using quite humble media like children’s crayons and water colours, ink and sticks.

My work has been exhibited nationally and I have also been involved with collaborative projects with three small independent businesses.

An example of one of these projects is the work from the Honky Tonk knitwear range for Keep and share (see photo) October 2006 - drawing with stitch on to pieces of Amy Twigger’s knitwear range, which was inspired by her trip to Joshua Tree and the fashion style of Gram Parsons.
