Welcome from the Dean
Welcome to Manchester School of Art. We know the first few weeks of a new term in a new place will be exciting and unsettling in equal measure. If you have any concerns during these first few weeks please contact your year tutor who you will meet on your first day, or our student support officer Helen Bowman on email@example.com.
We will be running our Acoustic Lounge in the Holden Gallery Café every lunchtime during the first week. This will give you the chance to speak to staff with queries or just have a coffee and listen to some great acoustic music.
There is also a more formal welcome for all new students at the City Art Gallery on Tuesday 16th October. All first year students are invited to this special evening reception where the creative and cultural sector will join us in a welcoming you to the city.
It is an exciting time for the School as we are in the final phases of an extensive rebuild and renovation of our facilities. In many ways this is an historic year for the school. Over its long history the school has seen a number of changes. The most recent was an extension to the original school back in the 1960's, opened by Princess Margaret, which heralded a new era in art and design education.
Our new building will open in January 2013. In the meantime, we are just putting the finishing touches to the renovation of the Chatham building with the final few rooms being finished over the next few weeks. This means that some parts of the ground floor, the first floor and the third floor will be opening gradually over the next two weeks. As many of you will be working on induction projects and starting the year with external visits to shows and galleries, this won't be a problem and your studies won't be affected.
We hope you have a great time here with us in Manchester. It is a great city and we hope you will discover that art school is a wonderful experience that you should expect to find both inspiring and challenging.
