Julene Harrison Chief Study: Woven Textiles

My interests lie in the relationship one fabric has with another. In fashion this could be one garment relating with another, or a fabric contrasting surfaces within itself.

My inspiration came from the juxtaposition of contrasting surfaces. By combining two surfaces, which at first glance, are not seen to have an affinity, the results can have dramatic effects. An element of surprise can come about when discovering the reverse of something is nothing as one expected. Snakes shed their skin the reveal something different underneath, while chameleons change colour to suit their environments. Peacock feathers and iridescent insects look different when and how you look at them. A new feel is given to fruits and plants when covered with a bloom or frost.
