The essay departs from previous academic debates of exploitation films, which tend to concentrate on the pleasures of the text or high/low discussions of trash culture and postmodernism. The discursive analysis is generated through an examination of original research materials such as press books, newspaper advertising, horror fanzines, comics and articles and will enrich understanding of the popularity and economic success of Corman’s Poe cycle but also the Poe’s peculiar status that appeals to both high and low cultural tastes.
