Ian is one of the University's longest serving staff members having begun work in the Art Department at the Elizabeth Gaskell College way back in time. The Elizabeth Gaskell College merged with two other teacher training colleges, Manchester and Mather, to form the City of Manchester College of Higher Education, which was in turn absorbed into Manchester Poytechnic, now MMU

Ian worked in silk screen, ceramics, wood, metal and photography but as technology took hold and departments merged he began supporting video and computing activities eventually becoming Technical Advisor in Computing in the Department of Fine Art. With the move from departments to the present school structure an opportunity arose to create a faculty resource offering support to students working in the three dimensional domain. Ian supports Vectorworks, Solidworks, Sketchup and Strata.
