Fabric Store
The Fabric Store is a resource for all students to buy fabrics, haberdashery and related products. We are located on the Chatham Ground Floor adjacent to the "A4 & More" Store.
We aim to source affordable fabrics from suppliers so that the costs are as low as possible without sacrificing the quality. The Store is a very valuable resource both for convenience and value for money
We have a sample board outside the Store with all of our products listed together with prices. Please come to view the board to get an idea of the extensive range offered.
Fabrics
We stock a range of wools, silks, linens and cottons which we buy mainly from Whaleys Ltd. These fabrics are of good quality and can be dyed or printed onto, some used in processes such as Devore. We are able to re-order these fabrics or you can order yourself directly from Whaleys. This is a list of some of the fabrics in our range:
Heavy Wool Flannel Wool Crepe Silk Viscose Velvet (devore) Noil Silk Habotai Silk Silk/Cotton mix Silk Organza Jarpur Silk Holland Linen Flax Canvas Linen Scrim Jute Hessian Cotton Satin Cotton Voile Furnishing Cotton Peasant Cotton
We also stock a range of light to heavy Calico as well as cotton canvas. Our recommended buy is the bundle of 5m calico, ideal for producing toiles or samples.
Non-Repeatable Fabrics
Non-Repeatable fabric is the term that we use when we get end of line fabrics, and we are therefore unable to re-order them. These fabrics tend to be vibrant and interesting and also very reasonably priced - but there may only be small pieces available, or it may sell out very quickly, and usually it comes without a content description. These fabrics are often exciting but be aware if you are beginning a project using a non-repeatable fabric, we recommend you get more than enough to avoid disappointment if it runs out.
Habedashery
Our range of haberdashery includes dressmaking pins, hand sew needles, eyelets, elastic, Velcro, various fastenings, boning, buttons and cord. It is very handy for all those bits and pieces you may have lost or forgotten such as stitch un-pickers or tailors chalk!
Threads
We stock Cotton Perle Hand Embroidery threads in a variety of colours and thicknesses, as well as Linen threads, Cotton a Broder and Soft Cottons. We also stock a small quantity of polyester machine thread.
Ordering
If there is anything specific you would like to order I may be able to help either by pointing you in the right direction or ordering it in myself. This is not always possible but do ask.
Photocopiers
You can purchase £1 photocopy cards from the store. The photocopiers are kept in the computer room. Please be careful with the papers that you feed through the copiers and only use the acetate which we supply in the store to avoid blockages and melting.
