The fine printmaking resources in Grsovenor

Fine Printmaking Workshops

Four separate workshops fully equipped with a wide range of printmaking equipment and processes.

The workshops are primarily for the use of students enrolled on the Fine Art Printmaking degree course and students studying fine art within the School of Art.

Students from non core areas who are interested in exploring their ideas through fine printmaking techniques are welcome to contact the department. A limited number of inductions are available throughout the academic year depending on staff availability.

Health & Safety

Safe working practice is of paramount importance within all workshops.

Please follow carefully all health and safety instructions – risk assessments have been made for all printmaking processes and practices and are available in the workshops - only inducted students have access to printmaking workshops.

Etching Workshop

Preparation areas for metal plates – hot plates and aquatint resin box - fume cupboards for acid etching - water baths and paper blotting table. Three etching presses.

Lithography Workshop

Large lithography plate sink and preparation area – two offset lithography presses two Albion platen presses for lino and wood cut – exposure unit and water spray booth for preparation of photo silk screens – print drying racks.

Silk Screen Workshop

The print store and resource room are located in this workshop.

Over head extraction system provides for the safe use of solvent based silk screen inks – three large silk screen printing tables – ink mixing areas and storage cupboards – print drying racks – silk screen drying cabinet – screen racks.

Clean paper table – paper cutter and etching paper press.

Water-based Screen Print Workshop

The screen-printing workshop is a small area where water-based process is endorsed. Water-based inks are safe to use and are more environmentally friendly than their solvent counterparts. The Workshop is open to all inducted users, and can get extremely busy at peak periods. Capacity 4.
