Sally Morfill became Programme Leader for BA(Hons) Textiles in September 2007, having joined MMU in 2005. She teaches across all years of the programme and has recently been involved in developing units as part of the team working on the new BA(Hons) undergraduate programme Textiles in Practice, commencing in September 2011.

Sally's practice is cross-disciplinary and often collaborative and is informed by her own Textiles education. She has an MA(RCA) in Fine Art (Tapestry) and first explored collaborative possibilities post graduation as one of a collective of artists working collaboratively towards exhibition outcomes in the early 1990s. More recently she has collaborated with a range of artists: Edward Dorrian, Mary Maclean, Ana Cavic and Sylvie Vandenhoucke, as well as with composer Matthew Lee Knowles. These experiences have fed her interest in setting up interdisciplinary possibilites for students and she has been involved in working with staff from the MSA developing collaborative projects between Textiles and Architecture students as well as being involved in the development of a cross-programme Supporting Study unit in 2008.

Sally is a member of Five years, an artist run gallery in Hackney, London, sharing responsibility for the programming of events and exhibitions. She has used this platform to show work by other MMU staff including Andrea Zapp, Sophie Benson and Jane Webb.
Members act autonomously of the others in deciding the nature and content of their contributions to the Five Years’ exhibition programme. The creative freedom that this structure allows generates a continuous, rapid succession of new projects, continuously branching out into unpredictable territory, beyond the control of any individual directorship.
