Kate is the Programme Leader and tutor on the BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice (TIP) programme.
Kate brings to the TIP programme a wealth of experience from her cross disciplinary practice.
In 2002 Kate set up the art label 'FLOAT' as a platform for interdisciplinary and collaborative projects in order to create new and unexpected mixes; to compliment the Public Art she produces for interior and exterior spaces.
Kate Egan combines new and old technologies in her work making reference to mass consumerism and observations of the universe (the macrocosm) in relation to the domestic (the microcosm). A variety of materials are used in in her work for example; air, soap, concrete, fabric, stitch and film.
She has worked simultaneously as a lecturer and artist/designer for the past 20 years, teaching across disciplines on a variety of courses at MMU and at other institutions. Kate has exhibited her work internationally and completed major commissions for public spaces. She was programme leader for the BA(Hons)Creative Practice degree and also the BA(Hons) Embroidery degree within the Manchester School of Art.
