The China Project
I have been pursuing a dialogue with Chinese artists for some years and have supervised Chinese PhD research students, including Dr Zhou, Tongyu (graduated 2006) and current students; Zhang, Shibin (investigating Chinese women's art) and Eunice Chan (investigating the relationships between aesthetics and health).A recent research trip to China, with Dr. Zhou, also made links with Chinese art schools and investigated exhibition possibilities for UK art and design in China.
I am collaborating with Huang Zhuan (of OCAT, Shenzhen) to co-curate an exhibition of new work by contemporary Chinese artists - this collaboration has led to a MIRIAD collaboration with the Chinese Art Centre, Manchester, and specifically curator, Ying Kwok, to realise the researched exhibition in 2008 in the UK and at OCAT in China. I am currently putting together partner galleries for a wider UK tour.
