A professional actor with extensive experience in theatre, film, television and radio, David joined MMU in 1999. Initially the Subject Leader for Drama at MMU Cheshire, he joined the Faculty of Art and Design as Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Acting course in 2004. As Chair of the Conference of Drama Schools Research Forum and a Co-convener of the 20th/21st Century Performer Training group at TaPRA (Theatre and Performance Research Association), David is actively engaged in promoting research initiatives across the HE performer training sector. His own research includes published articles/book chapters related to Stainislavsky and Russian Naturalism, British Actor Training, the American Method and Postdramatic Theatre.

A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, David is also involved in developing innovative approaches to degree level training and education. He is currently leading the School of Theatre’s contribution to a collaborative HEA funded project involving the Universities of York and Bristol as well as Central School of Speech and Drama and RADA.
