Tutor Vacancies

Now Required for 2012/13 Academic Year

MANCHESTER SCHOOL OF ART is seeking tutors to assist the programmes in the School with the general student experience. The post holders will teach and assess into undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes as appropriate and enhance and support the experience of students in the Faculty, by working with students in studios and workshops (where appropriate). They will also assist students in their negotiation of their course and act as a focal point for student feedback and a link with academic staff.

The posts will be for one academic year, hourly paid, typically for 12 hours a week for 30 weeks (total 360 hours over the year) but this may vary. The precise role will also vary according to the needs of the programme.

These posts will be open to recently graduated students from the Manchester School of Art, and current MA and PhD students. Previous post holders may apply. Applicants will be interviewed (probably late August /early September) and a pool of qualified tutors created from which posts will be filled in the coming academic year

Q. What will the roles entail?

A. This varies according to the programme you are attached to and their specific requirements. It may include delivering lectures, seminars and workshops to students, assessing their work, working alongside them in studios, solving technical problems and delivering technical instruction, arranging professional practice sessions, acting as a conduit for student feedback and a point of call for solving student issues. The key aim is to improve the student experience in myriad ways.

Q. Which programmes would I be working with?

A. This will depend on your field of practice and skills. Most of not all programmes in the School of Art will have one or more graduate student experience tutor attached.

Q. Who is eligible to apply?

A. Recently graduated students from the Manchester School of Art, and current MA and Phd students. Recent postholders are eligible to reapply.

Q. What will the hours be?

A. These are sessional posts .Typically 12 hours a week for 30 teaching weeks (360 hours for the academic year) but this may vary. In some programmes where a balance of skills is needed these roles my be split into smaller packages.

Q. What is the rate of pay?

A. You will be paid for the hours you work based on the full time Grade 5 salary.
