Installation

The comedians featured in this installation have been not only comics; they were also commentators, philosophers and free thinking individuals with important messages for us all. Comedians have become modern-day icons because of their ability to relate their honest view of the world to others. It is this humanness that has drawn me to their ideas; their realness is often what is missing from the rest of society. Unfortunately the lives of many comic icons have been plagued by vices, mainly drugs and alcohol. Many follow a path of self-destruction and end up seriously ill or die at an early age. This piece draws attention to a discord between the humour of comedians and the serious reality of their lives.
