Centre for Engagement through Art & Design
The Centre for Engagement through Art and Design is based in the Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The Art School has a rich history of running external projects within schools, art galleries and the broader community. Staff, students and graduates have considerable expertise and experience in initiating, managing and delivering a wide range of projects that focus on learning through doing.
The Centre aims to provide access to this knowledge base through:
- Hosting networking events.
- Providing access to expertise and support.
- Delivering CPD for Teachers.
- Providing workshops for schools and community groups.
We are continually seeking opportunities for developing new networks and collaborative projects.

Forthcoming Events and Opportunities
Degree Show Schools Days
Every year the Manchester School of Art celebrates the achievements of it's students at the undergraduate Degree Show. Schools and colleges are offered guided tours by our experienced student ambassadors. This provides an opportunity for pupils to gain a greater insight into the practices and opportunities available to them through further study and onwards into employment. This year there will be tours available at 10am and 12noon on both days.
Out of Schools Show
29 June - 9 July 2012
The 'Out of Schools' Show is an exhibition of pupil's work from schools across the region that showcases the exceptional achievements in art and design from early years to college students.
Interrogate the Art School
A day for pupils to work with student ambassadors finding out what happens in the Manchester School of Art.
Working in teams, using of notebooks and cameras, and accompanied by an experienced student ambassador, pupils explore and record what they see and hear. The information gathered is then curated into a team presentation. This opportunity encourages participants to identify information pertinent to them and offers the opportunity to explore and research.
Interrogation is undertaken during the morning session. Curation, selection and printing is completed over a working lunch, with final production and sharing of presentations in the afternoon.
Numbers maximum 30, minimum 5 (one ambassador per group of 5 pupils) Cost per pupil - £6.50
